Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed our recent trip to Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Today, I will take you all to Wellington, New Zealand, the home of The Lord of the Rings. I am sure everyone is familiar with the movie, who would not be???
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. At the same time, It is the film capital of New Zealand. There are a few of blockbuster movies filmed here and among them: The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Avengers, King Kong, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Last Samurai and many more. It was in Mount Victoria where the first day of filming The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Hobbiton Woods.
Mount Victoria has amazing views of Wellington City and the harbour as shown on above photos. While in Wellington, NZ, don’t miss to explore the 20 years of creativity of Weta Studio and Miniatures Stage Tour. I would suggest to plan ahead of time especially if you want to see the The Hobbiton film site and try booking your tour online even before you get there if possible. Most movie tours have limited schedules since you’d need a tour guide to go around the site. So, what it means, you can’t just go there and go around yourself. The Weta Studio tours will take you to the famous Weta Cave shop where you explore beautiful collectibles and watch an exclusive free behind scenes documentary.
I really enjoyed my trip to Mount Victoria where I could see the whole city of Wellington when at the top. The view of the city and the harbour is super fantastic and breathtaking.
Going around the city, you’ll enjoy the scenery for sure, the waters and the mountains surrounding the city, amazing! Life in Wellington, NZ is very relaxed and peaceful. One can easily appreciate its beauty, nature and weather. Don’t forget to ride the Wellington Cable Car and enjoy the ride up from the terminal in the heart of Lambton Quay shopping district up to the lookout for the breathtaking view of the city.
One thing that you need to know about shops and restaurants while you’re in Wellington, NZ, they close by 6 pm. Although there are a few restaurants that stay open until 10 pm the latest, but they’re the one located at their small night life district. The city itself is more for people to enjoy its beauty, nature and amazing scenery like waters and mountains surrounding the city and peaceful life.
My trip to Wellington, New Zealand was only for three days since it was only a side trip from Melbourne to Sydney, Australia. However, I wished I could have stayed for another few days to completely enjoy the city. And again, it’s another reason to go back and maybe add Auckland, on my next trip.
Anyways, that would be another trip at another time when the pandemic is over for good. Enjoy Wellington, New Zealand…
